What does a collective thought look like—when it comes from a unicellular organism?
That’s the question behind SLIME MACHINE, the project by Matilde Sartori, a young artist and designer who participated in the AI Creative Hackathon “LUMEN”, an event organized by Futureberry in collaboration with Atmosfera Mag. Her work received an Honorable Mention for its originality and depth.
A few weeks after the hackathon, we welcomed Matilde at our headquarters. Over lunch, we talked about biology, AI, generative aesthetics—and intelligent mold.
Slime as a language
SLIME MACHINE draws inspiration from slime molds, amoeboid organisms that move collectively, forming complex networks and structures without having a brain.

Matilde’s piece sits at the intersection of science and imagination: a visual machine that transforms biological behavior into strange, hybrid aesthetics—evoking thought, breath, and growth. It’s a powerful reflection on what it means to talk about “intelligence” today—natural, artificial, or collective.
Beyond the hackathon: why these experiences matter
The AI Creative Hackathon “LUMEN” was born as a space for pure experimentation—a playground where artists, designers, technologists, and curious minds gathered to explore new bodies, new languages, and new symbioses between humans and machines.

For us at Futureberry, events like this aren’t “extras.” They’re at the core of how we work. Meeting people like Matilde—unconventional, radical, and curious—helps us escape traditional thinking and imagine a business that’s truly futureproof.
Building inspiration—not off-the-shelf solutions
During lunch, Matilde told us, “Biology is my favorite prompt.”
It stuck with us, because it’s also the perfect metaphor for how we like to explore: embracing margins, mistakes, and unexpected crossovers.
“SLIME MACHINE isn’t a project about what AI can do, but about what a non-human system might think.”
At Futureberry, staying close to what’s changing is part of our DNA. And it’s through side projects like these that we stay ahead—not just technically, but culturally—building authentic relationships with those already navigating the frontier of generative creativity.
